Rich and luxurious, yet airy and spacious, this indoor/outdoor venue is where you sip the finest cognac or whisky from a prestigious range and revel in the tranquil murmur of after-dinner conversation. Dolce Vita is the gathering place for our savvy travellers of the world, a place where guests mingle and exchange stories and where new faces become lifelong friends. Small plate tapas-style dishes of mouth-watering international cuisine perfectly complement the rich, exciting entertainment as the smooth sounds of jazz and blues gently caress your ears. Silversea’s signature French restaurant, La Dame is the epitome of fine dining. Featuring the rich, smooth flavours of France, La Dame’s reputation for gastronomic excellence is fully upheld aboard Silver Moon. The Classic Veranda Suite provides generous living space for voyagers.

The bathroom has lashings of marble, and it feels opulent but very functional and is a one-person bathroom with a single large sink/vanity. But in saying that, the separate shower cubicle has a sensational rain shower head and wand. Included in our package was Silversea’s much-heralded Door to Door service, whereby you are picked up at home and driven by chauffeur service to the airport. Subcontracted to Blacklane, we have used this service before, and it worked like a dream. For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices.

Chefs stay tuned to the soul of local dishes – impressive for an ever-changing menu. On my Latin and South America cruise, I could really taste the cumin and achiote marinade permeating charred octopus. A Honduran beef turnover and a cinnamon-y Panamanian bread pudding looked as homey as they tasted – far more authentic than being gussied up for a luxury ship.
Key cruising tips
Bathrooms feature marble vanities, full-sized baths (which is an unusual but much-appreciated feature on cruise ships), separate showers and an interactive media library, featuring on-demand movies and TV. Kaiseki ($40) features an Asian menu and such fare as Wagyu beef and king crab tempura. The intimate, windowless setting of Kaiseki is a nice change of pace, but I preferred the food at lunch, when a roster of quality sushi was on offer (with no add-on). La Dame is Silver Moon’s French gourmet experience ($60), with foie gras, soups poured tableside, buttery Chilean sea bass, and soufflé for desert. With their limited seating, Kaiseki and La Dame were the only restaurants where reservations were encouraged.

We decided to decline this offer and arrange our own transport. Silversea did credit us £150 for the non-use of the service, but it left a bad taste in our mouths and spoilt the start of our holiday. Boarding was all very slick, and once onboard, we were presented with the obligatory glass of Champagne before finding our suite. Muster Drill for all newly embarked guests was a mandatory in-person session in the Venitian Lounge with a full demonstration and a trip to see our lifeboat. As you might expect for a ship stocked with Ars Italica caviar, sailings on Silver Moon aren't inexpensive.

In addition to the SALT programming, guests will have access to a lineup of entertainment and activities similar to what you'd find on other Silversea vessels. There are no roller coasters, waterslides or Broadway-style theater productions. During a Q&A following a naming ceremony on the first day of the sailing, Silversea Cruises' CEO and president Roberto Martinoli described the key differences guests might notice between Silver Moon and Silver Muse. For cruisers familiar with Silver Moon's sister ships Silver Muse and the recently refurbished Silver Spirit, the vessel will feel very familiar. As the most discerning, up-to-the-minute voice in all things travel, Condé Nast Traveler is the global citizen’s bible and muse, offering both inspiration and vital intel.
Silver Note
Every suite comes with a butler who caters to your every whim. It’s a nice touch and just another example of the warm, genuine service onboard Silversea ships. Our butler Wellesley was a very proactive butler who was always around to help restock our drinks fridge, provide canapés, book or cancel restaurants and the like—a big plus for Silversea.
I was also impressed with Silversea's no-nonsense approach to safety and health during the pandemic. Right now, Silversea is requiring all passengers on the ship to show proof of a COVID-19 vaccine before boarding. In fact, Silversea is known for offering one of the most all-inclusive products in cruising.
Silver Moon offers open seating, anytime dining during restaurant opening hours published in the Daily Chronicle, though many restaurants require reservations. In every restaurant, waiters/waitresses use iPads/tablets for taking our orders and should link through to your dietary instructions. Trying to determine which are the best ultra-luxury cruise lines and cruise ships can be a challenge, but it is important to do so as you will be investing a large amount of money for your dream vacation. According to Cruise Industry News, Luxury and expedition cruises are the fastest-growing market segments, according to the 2022 Cruise Industry News Annual Report. The luxury passenger cruise ship segment has grown 119 per cent since 2012 to an annual capacity of approximately 721,078 passengers in 2022, from 324,512 in 2012. On an upcoming 10-day Mediterranean cruise to and from Piraeus, the port of Athens, Greece, entry-level Vista Suites start at $7,800 per person.
Silver Note is a favorite among regulars for late night jazz and blues, an intimate bar with a grand piano and dance floor. Silver Moon's suites offer serene comfort, and every cabin comes with a butler who will cater to you every whim. It's a nice touch and just another example of the warm, genuine service you'll find onboard.
Silversea also offers SALT-themed shore excursions/land tours in most destinations. The 596-passenger Silver Moon was built in 2020, and is the first Silversea ship to debut the much-heralded S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste) programs now de rigueur on all new Silversea ocean liners. This well-rounded ship also offers a fitness center, spa, library and multiple lounges.
I love how butlers take the time to set a beautiful table in your suite, spreading out and smoothing wrinkles from a crisp cloth, lining up gleaming silverware just so and setting out a fresh flower vase, for instance. Zagara Beauty Spa has nine treatment rooms, along with separate steam rooms and saunas for men and women. Massages here are outstanding, elevated by argan oil or detoxifying herbal poultices. Enjoy chocolate dipped strawberries and Champagne at the outdoor whirlpool after your treatment. The adjacent salon offers hair and nail services, including crucial pedicures for summer sandal season. With eight excellent restaurants on board, dining is a highlight on Silver Moon.
We tried this, and the food was exceptional, and this is a good choice for a special occasion. Whether the $120 per couple is good value is debatable, as the food is just as good elsewhere on the ship. Silver Moon offers a choice of eight dining venues, each boasting a distinct concept and a five-star service that rivals any land-based hotel. From the delicious fresh seafood in Atlantide to the exclusive La Dame and Japanese Kaiseki, Silver Moon delights with unforgettable dining experiences. We chose a Deluxe Veranda Suite 839, which at 323sq ft and a 64sq ft balcony, offers a luxury feel and is perfectly comfortable. The suite has a separate bathroom, walk-in closet, sleeping area and living area with a couch, table and desk.
