Fred Savage plays the grandson in the opening scene, making him the only actor from the original film to reprise his original role. Cary Elwes, who starred as Westley in the original film, appears in the final confrontation between Westley and Humperdinck, but instead plays Humperdinck . Rob Reiner, director of the original film, appears in the production in two roles.

The Home Movie version of the film follows the same fundamental plot. In contemporary times, a grandfather reads the story of The Princess Bride to his dismissive sick grandson. In the story, set in medieval times in the fictional country of Florin, Buttercup and her farmhand Westley fall in love. Westley goes off to seek his fortune to marry Buttercup but she soon learns of his death at the hands of the Dread Pirate Roberts, and comes to accept the marriage proposal of Prince Humperdinck. Near her wedding day, three scoundrels, Vizzini, Inigo Montoya, and Fezzik, abduct Buttercup at the request of Humperdinck to make it appear as an act from a neighboring kingdom and pretense to start a war.
The film premiered at the Boulder International Film Festival on March 7, 2015, and was released in theaters on March 27, 2015. Home was promoted with the release of a four-minute short film titled Almost Home, which was shown in theaters before DreamWorks Animation's Mr. Peabody & Sherman and Blue Sky Studios' Rio 2 in 2014. The soundtrack also includes guest vocals from Jennifer Lopez, among others, and was supported by two singles, "Towards the Sun" and "Feel the Light". Home received mixed reviews from critics and grossed $386 million worldwide. There's nothing particularly new or fancy about Dreamworks' latest animated affair. There are no breathtaking action sequences like in their How To Train Your Dragon and Kung-Fu Panda franchises.

I suppose the film is colorful enough and the animation is more than solid, but it takes more than that to make a good movie. And that doesn't necessarily mean that a film will be good or bad, but it's far more noticeable when the film isn't good, as it was here. Home is one of Dreamworks Animation much more lazier projects, one that doesn't take any risks and feels like we've seen a thousand times. The story is about an alien and little girl becoming friends during a generic quest, and I really am tired of seeing the same boring road trip bonding movie that goes the exact same way as the rest. They don't like each other, then they do, then they fight, then they reconcile and are friends again. It didn't have the power of the other friendship Dreamworks has created, most notably Hiccup and Toothless. Jim Parsons is a great comedic talent, but his character here is nothing more than an animated version of Sheldon Cooper.

I'm sure Inside Out is still in theaters, so take your kids to see that instead. In addition, she appeared as Tara in the show’s second season, which aired in 2015. Vibrant, energetic and with an unexpected tear-jerking finale, Home falls on the right side of simple. He is a quirky alien who doesn't understand our customs, and he never really did anything to stand out from his other roles. Rihanna is just here because they want to appeal to the younger crowd, which would be fine, but they play so much of her music that it almost felt like a ad for her new album. I enjoyed Steve Martin's character as the alien leader Captain Smek, he was just so wacky and dumb that it perfectly fit Martin's humor. Animation was very good, but still one of their more kid friendly animated films like Mr. Peabody and Sherman. I feel like Dreamworks has been declining in quality the past few years, with the exception of the phenomenal How to Train Your Dragon films and I even enjoyed The Croods.
Oh moves in with Tip and Lucy; many other aliens, invited by Oh, come to visit earth and attend his parties.

The soundtrack for Home Movies was released May 16, 2006 and includes fifty-two songs which were featured throughout the series. People always talk about the great Disney or Pixar films that come out every year, and if another animated film comes along that doesn't live up to those standards, they disregard it. Sadly, I think that this very underrated animated film will be forgotten about very soon, and it definitely should not be. "Home" tells a very simple story of an alien race that wants to inhabit earth.
